This afternoon of chant is a unique and perhaps an historic event. Christians, Jews, Muslims and Buddhists all will be on one stage together sharing their religions’ traditions in chant.
Each faith tradition will:
Explain the role of chant or reading sacred text. Perform chants or recitations. Teach the audience to chant or recite.
At the conclusion of the program everyone is invited to a reception to meet the participants. | Dr. Don E. Saliers, Professor Emeritus, Candler School of Theology, [BIO] will give an overview of Gregorian chant and direct a Schola Cantorum. | 
| | Cantor Nancy Kassel [BIO] from Temple Beth Tikvah in Roswell will explain Biblical Cantillation, [Details] the system used to help make word meaning clearer and memorization easier. | 
| | Soumaya Khalifa, [BIO] founder and Executive Director of the Islamic Speakers Bureau of Atlanta, [www.isbatlanta.org] will explain how Muslims take particular care to read or recite the Quran, but never chant or sing it. This practice is in keeping with the fact that the word “Quran” itself means “The Reading” or “The Recitation.” [Details] Shariq Gyagenda [BIO] will share the stage with her and recite from the Quran. |
